Hightower Offers Amendment To Immigration Reform

District 68 Representative Dustin Hightower is sponsoring new legislation that he believes will fill loopholes found by illegal aliens in the comprehensive immigration reform bill passed a couple years back. Hightower says the largest fix in his bill deals with foreign passports.

“Illegal aliens are going to the Mexican consulate—which is pumping out passports to them,” Hightower said Thursday. “They in turn use those passports to try to establish a legal presence in our country.

Hightower says the passports were never meant to be used for that purpose.

The amendment to the passed-bill simply states:

The term- “secure and verifiable document” shall not include any foreign passport unless the passport is submitted with a valid United States Homeland security form or other federal documents specifying an alien’s lawful presence in our country.

The amendment to House Bill 125 passed out of sub-committee Thursday and could be brought before full committee as early as Monday.
