Eighteen Attend Sheriff Eddie Mixon's Firearms Familiarization Class

Buchanan- Today, there are eighteen more Haralson County residents who know how to use a firearm safely to defend themselves or their families. The citizens graduated from an all female firearms familiarization program organized by Haralson County Sheriff Eddie Mixon and his staff.  "As Sheriff I have know it is important for everyone to be able to protect themselves but as a husband and father of three girls I have a special commitment to see that females are given every opportunity learn how to confidently use a weapon for personal safety."  Jail Administrator Major Roger Blue who is a Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (P.O.S.T) certified instructor designed and led the six hour training.  According to Blue participants spent time in both a classroom and live fire setting. "The classroom is a great place to teach the basics of gun safety but for a person to truly become confident in the use of a weapon there is no substitute for range practice."   Sheriff Mixon said given the feedback from participants he would anticipate additional classes will offered in the future.
