Deputy Fires Gun At Woman With Knife

The GBI has been called in to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred just north of Villa Rica city limits late Friday morning.
Carroll County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Brad Robinson says deputies were called to a home around 11:30am by county residents concerned about their neighbor. "They were very concerned about her behavior," Robinson told WLBB Radio.
According to the report, deputies knocked at the woman's door. She answered. Deputies saw that she had a butcher's knife in her possession. She aggressively approached the officer. He retreated and urged her to stop. She continued in his direction. The deputy deployed his taser. She was struck in the stomach area but was able to continue toward the officer, still holding her weapon.
At some point, Robinson says, the deputy fell to the ground. The individual continued towards him, and the deputy fired his weapon, striking her twice.
The woman was flown to Atlanta hospital because of her injuries. The deputy suffered minor injuries.
"Any time one of our deputies needs to fire his weapon and strikes someone, we call in an outside agency to review," Robinson said. "But, we believe this was a fair shooting and we are thankful that he was not seriously injured."
The name of the officer and the name of the woman involved have not been released at this time.
