Commissioners Consider A Pair Of Public Safety Projects

A pair of important public safety projects could get started soon in Carroll County.

The Board of Commissioners is expected to approve the purchase of a former-bank building on Hwy 61 in south Villa Rica for the purpose of turning it into a new headquarters for the Georgia State Patrol Post 4.

The trooper’s current headquarters on Hwy 78 in Villa Rica has been in need of one repair or another for years, and County Chairman Marty Smith says this time it’s a better investment to purchase the more modern and larger property to accommodate the officers.

The county also appears to be about ready to begin work on a new fire station on Carrollton-Tyus Road.

Fire Chief Scott Blue says having the new station will improve the ISO ratings for near-by residents; which will result in lowering their insurance bills.

The projects are slated to be paid through special purpose local option sales tax funding.
