Carrollton Will Continue Supporting NSP

Carrollton Ga -- The City of Carrollton will continue to support eligible parties interested in purchasing a home through the Neighborhood Stabilization Program, following approval from city council on Monday.

The NSP has provided close to $3.5 million to the Carrollton government since 2009 for acquiring and redeveloping foreclosed properties that might otherwise become sources of abandonment and blight. The properties are then sold to buyers who are eligible to participate in the Neighborhood Stabilization Program.

Eligible buyers may receive contributions for down payment assistance, closing costs, a deferred second mortgage, as well as education on homeownership.

City Manager Tim Grizzard on Monday said the city still has access to about $1 million  to continue the program. If the money is not used, it would ultimately have to be returned.
