CARROLLTON, GA – Carrollton Middle School sixth grader Kyu Alegre, who won the Carrollton City Schools system spelling bee earlier this month, placed fourth in the District 4 competition Saturday, the highest placing of a Carrollton City Schools speller in more than a decade.

The District 4 spelling bee represents 184,000 fourth through eighth grade students from Atlanta City, Carroll County, Carrollton City, Decatur City, DeKalb County, Douglas County, Forsyth County and Fulton County school systems.

The Carrollton Association of Educators sponsors the local spelling bee and is coordinated by teacher Leigh Crews. She noted the 2005 Carrollton champion, Ali Low, advanced to state competition that year.
