Since 1936, Carroll Electric Membership Cooperative has been inviting its Members to attend an Annual Meeting and participate in the business of their cooperative. 80 years later, the practice remains. Carroll EMC held its 80th Annual Meeting on October 6 at their main office in Carrollton.
The Annual Meeting is a time where Carroll EMC Members can take part in the business of the cooperative, vote on the board of directors and fellowship with other Members and co-op staff. Since Carroll EMC is a cooperative, Members have the opportunity to not only vote in a democratic election for the board of directors, but also are eligible to run, if they choose.
Though the purpose may be business, for Members, it’s all fun. This year, Members were treated to food from the Varsity, entertainment by the local band Homegrown, high voltage demonstrations, a kid’s station and drawings for various door prizes including the grand prize of a 2006 Chevy Silverado pickup truck.
“The Annual Meeting isn’t just a business meeting; it’s a family tradition for a lot of our Members,” said Carroll EMC CEO, Tim Martin. “Some of our Members have been attending since they were children and now bring their own children and grandchildren. We are proud to be electricity providers for our Members and to be an integral part of the community.”
