Carroll County Prison Inmate Escapes With Alleged Help From Mom & Wife

The US Marshals led up the authorities who captured an inmate who walked away from a work detail in Carroll County, Saturday.

51-year old John Leonardi was an inmate of the Carroll County Prison in Carrollton when he walked away from a work detail at John Tanner Park Saturday morning. The report of his escape was released publicly after noon.

Leonardi had been in prison since May on charges of possessing drug-related material in Houston County sometime in January, according to the state’s Department of Corrections website. He was sentenced to two years.

He was incarcerated for a drug-related conviction. His maximum possible release date was in 2019.

Reliable sources say Leonardi was captured on I-75 near McDonough around 5:00pm Saturday. He was reportedly with his mother and his wife. Investigators had reportedly used phone records to get info regarding the allegedly-planned escape.
