Bremen Police 'Catch A Predator'

Bremen Police are playing roles in their own (non-televised) version of ‘Catch A Predator’ as a 2-month-long investigation results in the arrest of a 25-year old Talladega, Alabama man. Bremen Police Chief Keith Pesnell says an alleged pedophile traveled 2-hours for the possibility of having sex with an underage girl. The suspect instead encountered investigators.
“Our investigator went undercover, basically posing as an underage girl on different websites,” Pesnell told WLBB Radio. “The suspects in these cases— they have to be the aggressor. We are trained in what to say so as to not entrap or anything of that nature. Then it leads to them asking to come and meet.”
Pesnell says it is unfortunate that this type of investigation is necessary but he says we are in a time where the potential predators are using the Internet to target potential victims.
He says parents can play a role in protecting their young ones.
“I’m a parent so I know that we as parents need to be more observant of what our kids are looking at online. We know they have access to so many sites on the Internet and it is not always easy to make sure they are visiting the right things,” he said. “But, you have predators out there preying on our kids and when someone does make contact with them we need to make them understand they don’t fall into that and entertain carrying on a conversation.”
The man arrested in this case faces charges of criminal attempt to commit child molestation, sexual exploitation of children, electronically furnishing obscene material to a minor, and possession of a firearm during a felony.
