The fine folk with historic Banning Mills hope to lay official claim to having the world’s tallest free-standing climbing wall when representatives from Guinness World Records visit the 139-foot tall structure in Whitesburg Saturday. The Banning Mills wall reportedly stands nearly 20 feet higher than its closest competitor, a wall in the Netherlands known as “Excalibur.”
Following a successful climb to the top by Banning Mills Facilitator Caleb Robertson, the wall will be officially ready to be entered in the record books. Climbing the wall is also open to the public. Proceeds from all of Banning Mills’ adventure activities are used to help preserve the Snake Creek Gorge.
