Bank Robbery in Carrollton

Carrollton Ga -- It took all of six minutes for Carrollton Police to apprehend the man they believe walked into the Regions Bank on S Park Street Wednesday afternoon and handed a teller a note asking for money. He left on foot with approximately $2,300.

Carrollton Police Captain Shannon Cantrell says that  about an hour later, twenty two year old Michael Grant Godfrey had admitted to the crime.
Cantrell says shortly after the call came in regarding the robbery, Corporal Chris Thompson had spotted a man fitting the description of the alleged robber walking on Kramer Street.

Cantrell said: "We're very proud that the responding officers got where they should be to start with and got in the area and started checking very quickly. So we were able to apprehend him. from the time when the bank call came in and the time we charged him was about an hour."

During his interview with police, the suspect had admitted to falling on hard times.

"When he actually confessed to detectives, the reason he gave to them was that he just lost his job and didn't know what to do.  He decided today that he was going to rob a bank and he knew that the money was insured and he didn't feel like he was taking money from an individual," said Captain Cantrell.  

Godfrey has been charged with burglary and is in the Carroll County Jail.
