Demolishing the old Sewell Manufacturing Plant in Temple could reveal some interesting things about the city from sixty years ago.
“I found out the other day that they had a ceremony back in ’53 and put a time-capsule inside the building,” Mayor Rick Ford said Thursday. “…perhaps some real interesting items.”
Ford says tearing down the building could begin as early as next week:
“We are partnering with Carroll County to tear the building down and they are going to come out and start on the inside the first of the week, so hopefully by the end of next week we’ll have all of our permits and everything and we’ll be ready to start tearing the building down,” Ford said. “What we’ll do is take the cornerstone out first and the time capsule is supposedly behind it.”
Once demolished and cleared, city officials plan to house a new government administration building on the site.
